Children at Pudsey Sunflowers Pre-School are rapidly developing their IT skills following the donation of new computer equipment to the school by a local company.

Leeds-based Lowell Group, one of the UK’s leading debt purchasing specialists, has provided the school with a new computer and printer, equipped with the latest educational software for pre-school children.

Pre-school manager Karen Jarman said:

This is a fantastic learning aid for the children. They are having fun and at the same time it is helping their reading and arithmetic skills, and of course their computer skills. We are a registered charity. All our funding comes from parents and our own fundraising activities so we are extremely grateful to the Lowell Group for their generous gift.

James Cornell, Lowell Group’s chief executive officer, added:

We were delighted to help Pudsey Sunflowers. They had originally approached us to see if we had any old equipment we weren’t using any more. We didn’t, but felt it was a very worthwhile project and have made the contribution as part of our local community support programme. It was great to see how enthusiastic the children were and how quickly they were picking up computer skills. While I was there one child turned the screen upside down. I didn’t know how to restore it but it turned out he already knew! And he was only four!

Pudsey Sunflowers Pre-Schoolcaters for children aged between two and five and is located in the grounds of Southroyd Primary and Nursery School. It offers children a safe, stimulating and caring environment in which they can learn.

We provide children with a programme of pre-foundation activities which help them develop life skills and independence and prepares them for school

explained Karen Jarman.

Although we are independent of Southroyd School we work very closely with it. For example, some of our older children will be with us in the morning and go to nursery school in the afternoon or vice versa. We have capacity for 40 children and numbers are very healthy but a few places are available. If parents are interested they can contact me on 07890 767644

Lowell Group employs over 300 people in Leeds and is one of the country’s fastest-growing businesses.
